“Enable your children to learn a skill that lasts a lifetime! Swimming lessons teach your children to feel comfortable in the water, introduce important water safety behavior, and expose them to a great form of exercise. Instruction for beginners, intermediate, and advanced swimmers is available for children three years and older. You do not need a Recreational Sports membership to participate in swimming lessons.

Choose from six levels of instruction for children.

To help us match your children with an appropriately skilled Instructor, choose from six levels of instruction that match your children’s current swim ability. Your child must be able to perform all skills learned in their current level before moving to the next level:

LEVEL 1: New to the water but willing to learn. Able to listen, follow directions, and participate independent from parents.

LEVEL 2: Able to comfortably place face and head in the water. Capable of entering and exiting the pool unassisted and perform front and back float for 3 seconds with support.

LEVEL 3: Able to float unsupported for at least five seconds on front and back. Also able to swim five yards of front crawl and tread water for 15 seconds.

LEVEL 4: Can swim 15 yards front crawl using rhythmic breathing. Also able to swim 15 yards of elementary backstroke and tread water for 30 seconds.

LEVEL 5: Able to swim 25 yards of front crawl and elementary backstroke, 15 yards of breaststroke and back crawl, and tread water for one minute.

LEVEL 6: Able to continuously swim front crawl and elementary backstroke for 50 yards, breaststroke and back crawl for 25 yards, and tread water for two minutes.

DIVING LESSONS (children only): Learn the basics to get started on diving! Your child must be able to swim the length of the pool (25 yards) and tread water for one minute in order to participate in diving lessons.
