Recreational Sports Diabetes Prevention Program

TYPE 2 DIABETES - ARE YOU AT RISK?

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention estimates that 1 of every 3 U.S. adults had prediabetes in 2010.  That is 79 million Americans age 20 years or older.  The vast majority of people living with prediabetes do not know they have it.

Take this 1-minute test through the American Diabetes Association to see if you are at risk.

The Diabetes Prevention Program is a FREE 16-week evidence-based lifestyle change program designed to reduce the risk for developing type 2 diabetes.  The program is offered by Recreational Sports and underwritten by Healthy IU for faculty/staff at IU Bloomington.  Participants work with a lifestyle coach in a supportive group setting where weekly lessons focus on modest behavior changes to improve food choices and increase physical activity.

Since September 2012, more than 50 IU Bloomington faculty and staff have completed or are currently enrolled in the program and have lost more than 586 pounds!
