Safety Officer Resources

A. Safety Officer Requirements:

a. CPR/AED for Adults from American Red Cross (ARC) or American Heart Association (AHA). This certification is valid for 1 year.

b. Standard First Aid from American Red Cross (ARC) or American Heart Association (AHA). This certification is valid for the time specified by the agency. (typically 2 years)

c. UP:PDT (Universal Precautions: Preventing Disease Transmission) This is a risk management class offered through Campus Recreational Sports. In place of this class, Safety Officers can substitute the Bloodborne Pathogens certification from American Red Cross (ARC) or American Heart Association (AHA). This certification is valid for 1 year. 

d. Safety Officer Workshop is training offered through Campus Recreational Sports. This workshop is valid for the current academic year. (Fall semester of the current year through the summer semester)

1. To register, email clubsprt [at] indiana.edu with your name, club sport, IU username, class you want to register for, and multiple date options (in case first choice class is full).

2. Cancellation Policy: If a safety officer cannot attend a class they are registered for, the safety officer must cancel or reschedule at least 48 hours before the class by calling Member Services at (812)855-7772 or (812)855-5222. If a safety officer fails to attend a class for which they are registered, a fine will be assessed to the club sport. The club sport will be fined $50 for CPR/AED classes, $40 for SFA classes, and $25 for UP:PDT classes.
