IDENTIFICATION POLICIES

Individuals interested in using the Recreational Facilities must present one of the following:

  • Valid IU Bloomington Student I.D. with a valid Recreational Sports membership.
  • IUB Faculty/Staff I.D. with a valid Recreational Sports membership purchased.
  • Recreational Sports Annual Membership card.
  • Recreational Sports Daily or Weekly Pass.
  • IU Conference Bureau I.D. with Recreational Sports privileges.
  • All participants are required to carry their I.D. or Recreational Sports pass with them at all times while using the facility. Only the identification cards mentioned previously will be accepted as valid.
  • Lost I.D.s may be found at the Member Services Suite (room 170).
  • Any Day/Week Passes that have been altered in any way are automatically void and the person carrying such a pass shall not be permitted to use the facilities. Daily pass purchases may not be applied to an annual pass.
  • Any questions involving fees or Identification policies should be brought to the attention of the Informal Sports Supervisor or Member Services Associate.
  • A photo ID is required to purchase a membership, daily or weekly pass.

OPERATIONAL POLICIES

  • Children/dependents, under 18, must be accompanied and directly supervised by a parent or guardian (18 years or older) holding a valid IU identification card or membership, Daily/Weekly Pass, or valid Conference Bureau Name Badge.
  • Verbal and/or physical abuse towards an employee of Campus Recreational Sports or Recreational Sports participant will result in immediate dismissal from the facility, with possible one year suspension of all Recreational Sports privileges and the possibility of expulsion from the University and legal charges filed.
  • No sparring involving physical contact, implements or weapons that the Informal Sports Supervisor deems unsafe is allowed.
  • No food or drink (other than water), or glass containers are allowed in activity spaces.
  • No alcohol, tobacco products, firearms or illegal drugs are allowed in Recreational Sports facilities.
  • No pets other than service animals are allowed in RS activity spaces in the Wildermuth Intramural Center and SPHB Building.
  • Personal Training is restricted to Recreational Sports Fitness/Wellness staff exclusively.
  • Daily equipment and lock checkout is available at the Member Services suite in the Wildermuth Intramural Center for students and members at no additional cost. Day and week pass users may check out a lock at no additional cost, but may not check out equipment.
  • Photography with any type of camera within any Recreational Sports facility is prohibited unless prior arrangements have been made and a waiver signed by Recreational Sports professional staff member. Please contact the Assistant Director,Theresa  Lehman by email t[email protected] or by phone at 855-1545 for further inquiry.
  • Strollers are restricted to the public hallways & restrooms and not allowed in Recreational Sports activity areas.
  • If you are hurt in any way at the RS activity spaces in the Wildermuth Intramural Center and SPHB Building please report your injury to Recreational Sports staff personnel. Participants should be treated for open wounds and/or replace clothing that is potentially infectious.
  • Any clothing item that has enough blood on it that the blood can be transferred to another surface when touched must be taken off and put in a biohazard bag.
  • Shoes should be clean of debris before entering Recreational Sports activity spaces.
  • All personal items must be secured before using the RS activity spaces in the Wildermuth Intramural Center and SPHB Building. All belongings must be stored in a locker (rented or day-use).
  • Groups may reserve activity space. Contact a Member Services Associate for an application.
  • Questions and concerns regarding Recreational Sports Programs, personnel, and equipment should be directed to SPHB 290 or call 855-522
  • There are also comment cards at strategic locations throughout the RS activity spaces in the Wildermuth Intramural Center and SPHB Building for your use in conveying your thoughts.
  • •No dangerous physical activities will be allowed that are deemed unsafe by any Recreational Sports employee

STATEMENT OF RESPONSIBILITY

  • Neither Indiana University nor Campus Recreational Sports accepts any responsibility for ill health or injury sustained while participating in any of the programs. No medical or ambulance expense incurred by a participant will be paid by the Division or by the University. Participation is on a voluntary basis. It is recommended that all participants undergo a prior physical examination and carry some form of health and injury insurance. If an injury does occur, it should be reported to the nearest Recreational Sports staff member. In the event that blood is involved in an injury, that person cannot continue to participate until the wound is properly cleaned and dressed; any clothing with blood should be removed.

Wildermuth Intramural Center and SPHB Building (Courts and Track)

Occupancy Capacity = 1,800. This standard is calculated for standing only.

  • Dunking, grabbing, hanging on rims or nets, or hand in the "cylinder" is not permitted due to safety and maintenance concerns. Violators will be subject to disciplinary process and asked to leave the facility immediately.
  • Kicking or throwing of a basketball and/or other equipment towards the ceiling and/or track is prohibited. Violators will be asked to leave the facility immediately and will be billed for the damages.
  • Verbal and/or physical abuse towards an employee of Campus Recreational Sports or Recreational Sports participant will result in immediate dismissal from the facility, with possible one-year suspension of all Recreational sports privileges and the possibility of expulsion from the University and legal charges filed.
  • Abuse of property will not be tolerated. Violators may be subject to disciplinary process and asked to leave the facility immediately.
  • No food or drink (other than water), or glass containers are allowed in activity spaces.
  • Basketball Challenge Court Policy: Please be courteous when waiting for next game. The expectation is that the first 5 players waiting to play next game, have first right to play the winners of the current game. Make sure that you actually call "next game" to the other players waiting to play. Challenge court scoring is 1 point baskets, play to 15, win by 2.
  • Court 6 is the Women's Priority Court: During all Informal Sport hours. Four women are needed to play a half-court game and eight for a full-court game. If a game is in progress, the teams will be allowed 5 minutes to finish their game. During Intramural sports season, eight people are needed for a full-court game, half-court policy is not in effect.
  • Half-Court Rights: Players may continue to use a basket until 8 or more want to play a full-court game.
  • Gym bags and book bags must be secured in a rental or day-use locker. Near courts 1 and 10 there are plastic bins to place clothing and equipment. Recreational Sports is not responsible for any lost or stolen personal items.
  • Please keep the curtains drawn as a safety precaution to keep balls and participants from interfering with participants on the indoor track.
  • Basketball and volleyball participants must yield to joggers/walkers when crossing the track.
  • Only non-marking gym shoes will be allowed unless you are a spectator.
  • Dust mops are available at the Member Services suite to assist in the cleaning of debris from the floor. Please return them to the member Services Suite when finished.

Track

  • The track direction changes daily. Counter-clockwise on the even days of the month and clockwise on the odd days of the month. All joggers are to follow the same direction. One lap equals 857 feet. One mile equals 6 laps plus 138 feet. The speed lane assignments are as follows: Inside Lane/Running - Middle Lane/Jogging - Outside Lane/Walking
  • The courtesy rule of passing is recommended. A jogger should say, "Passing on your left or right," and look behind to make sure no other runners are coming before making a pass.
  • Participants using the track should be alert for balls and players crossing the track.
  • Strollers are not permitted on the track.

General

  • In the event of an injury or accident seek assistance from an on-site Recreational Sports employee.
  • Do not spit on the floor or in the garbage cans. A receptacle is available next to the water fountains.

SPHB HANDBALL RACQUETBALL SQUASH WALLYBALL COURTS

Occupancy Capacity = 16 per court/4 per game

  • ID Policy: Individuals must have a valid IUB Student I.D. with a valid Recreational Sports (RS) membership or IUB Faculty/Staff I.D. with a valid RS membership purchased to use RS activity spaces. Please be prepared to show your valid IU I.D. or RS membership card.
  • Dependants under 18 years of age must be supervised by an adult at all times to utilize the Racquetball/Squash/Walleyball courts.
  • Reservations: Courts for racquetball, squash, wallyball, or dance are available by reservation up to 24 hours prior to play. Courts must be claimed within 5 minutes of the reserved starting time or the reservation will be forfeited. Failure to present a valid I.D. will result in forfeiture of the reservation (call 855-5222, or stop by the Wildermuth Intramural Center Member Services Suite, room 170, to make a reservation).
    • When time has expired at the end of a reserved time period, please use courtesy by knocking on the door to signal that time has expired. For safety reasons, do not enter the court until the participants open the door.
    • The official clock is located on the wall near Court 7. Turnover in court scheduled times will be followed by the clock's time or the clock in the Member Services Suite if the official clock malfunctions.
  • Lights: The operation switch for each court's set of lights is located in a panel to the left of each court entrance door. Lights must be turned off when leaving the court if no one is waiting for the court.
  • Racquetball Challenge Court Policy: Court 11 will be for singles play, Court 12 will be for doubles play.
    • The order of the challengers is determined by standing next to the available "X" located on the wall in the observation deck.
    • Each game will be played to 11 points.
    • The winner may only play 3 consecutive games before giving the court to the next two challengers.
    • The loser forfeits the court whether the winner stays or not.
    • If a challenger arrives at mid-game the current game will be finished.
    • Opponents may require that eye protection be worn on the court.
  • Play Recommendations: Courts 1 through 5 are recommended for Squash and Courts 7 through 12 for Racquetball/Handball. Note: Court 1 is the Squash Priority Court. Wallyball may be played on Courts 7-10.
  • Racquetball eye guards are recommended for wear in order to reduce the chance of eye injuries and may be checked out at the Wildermuth Member Services Station.
  • Clothing requirements: Shirts that cover the chest are required as a common courtesy and for safety. Non-marking gym shoes are to be worn when using the racquetball courts.
  • Clothing, equipment, and other items, should be placed in a locker, not on the court, the overlooking ledge or out side the door. Recreational Sports is not responsible for lost or stolen items.
  • No food or drink (other than water), or glass containers are allowed in activity spaces.
  • Equipment: Racquet sports and Wallyball equipment are available for checkout from the EQ room located by the Men's locker room. Day pass users may check out daily racquet sports equipment with a Recreational Sports member or student.
  • If the courts need to be swept, dust mops may be obtained from the Member Services Suite.
  • In the event of an injury or accident seek assistance from an on-site Recreational Sports employee.
  • •No dangerous physical activities will be allowed that are deemed unsafe by any Recreational Sports employee

SPHB STRENGTH & CONDITIONING ROOM POLICIES

Occupancy Capacity = 105

  • EXERCISES THAT MAY ENDANGER YOU OR OTHER PARTICIPANTS ARE SRTICTLY PROHIBTED.
  • Safe and proper use of equipment is required at all times. If you are unsure how to use a piece of equipment, please ask a Strength and Conditioning Consultant. PLEASE DO NOT DROP WEIGHTS.
  • Weight plates, dumbbells, and other equipment accessories must be returned to their proper location use. Please re-rack dumbbells in weight order.
  • All strength training equipment must stay in its original location; moving equipment is not permitted.
  • Collars must be used on bars at all times.
  • Abuse of property (slamming weight stacks, dropping weights to the floor, etc.) or verbal or physical abuse of participants or staff will not be tolerated. Violators may be asked to leave the facility immediately and are subject to the Recreational Sports participant disciplinary process.
  • Athletic shoes covering the entire foot must be worn at all times. Open-toed and open-heeled shoes and sandals are not permitted. Workout clothes that fully cover the chest must be worn. Shirts are required at all times. JEANS ARE NOT PERMITTED.
  • Participants must sign up for treadmills and elliptical cross trainers. Participants may sign up for one 30-minute slot for each type of equipment (i.e. participants may not sign up for two different treadmills consecutively). This procedure reserves the piece of equipment for up to five minutes into the time slot; after five minutes, the piece becomes open for other users.
  • Participants may only sign themselves up for a treadmill or elliptical cross trainer. Please do not sign up friend(s) or other participants.
  • No food or beverage is permitted in the Strength and Conditioning areas; ONLY WATER IN PLASTIC BOTTLES IS ALLOWED. NO GLASS.
  • Only authorized personnel of Campus Recreational Sports are allowed to provide personal training services in the Strength and Conditioning areas.
  • Please leave personal belongings in personal storage bins, lockers, or on hooks. Personal belongings are not permitted beyond the Consultant station or anywhere else in the Strength and Conditioning areas. Campus Recreational Sports is not responsible for lost or stolen items.
  • All participants must enter/exit through designated areas.
  • Individuals without a valid Indiana University student I.D. and under the age of 18 are not permitted in the Strength and Conditioning areas.
  • For safety, maximal participant capacities have been established in accordance with local building codes and industry standards. Maximal participant capacity at the SPHB is 105.
  • Recreational Sports personnel may limit access to Strength and Conditioning areas based on these limits.
  • Strollers are not permitted in the Strength and Conditioning areas.
  • In the event of an injury/accident, contact a Strength and Conditioning Consultant.

SPHB GYMNASIUM 293

  • No dunking, grabbing, hanging on rims or nets, or hand in the "cylinder" is permitted due to safety and maintenance concerns. Violators will be subject to disciplinary process and asked to leave the facility immediately.
  • Participants are not to turn on the lights or tamper with the panel boxes located on the south wall. Requests or problems should be referred to Informal Sport Supervisors.
  • Volleyball nets and standards will be set up and taken down by on-duty Informal Sports Supervisors and Wildermuth Intramural Center Equipment Room Personnel.
  • Kicking or throwing of a basketball and/or other equipment towards the ceiling is not permitted. Violators will be asked to leave the facility immediately and will be billed for the damages.
  • Verbal and/or physical abuse towards an employee of Campus Recreational Sports or a Recreational Sports participant result in immediate dismissal from the facility, with possible one-year suspension of all Recreational sports privileges and the possibility of expulsion from the university and legal charges filed.
  • Abuse of property will not be tolerated. Violators may be subject to discplinary process and asked to leave the facility immediately.
  • Reservations for volleyball courts are available through the Wildermuth Intramural Center Member Services Suite or calling 855-5222 and can be made up to 24 hours in advance.
  • Table Tennis tables are available for informal use any time the space is available on Court
  • Please contact the Informal Sports Supervisor to set up the tables.
  • Table Tennis equipment can be checked out at the Wildermuth Member Services Suite.
  • The red partition/curtains will separate each court when they are in use.
  • Gym bags and book bags must be secured in a rental or day-use locker.
  • Volleyball has priority except during Intramural Sports basketball season.
  • Only non-marking gym shoes will be allowed on the courts.
  • No food or drink (other than water), or glass containers are allowed in activity spaces.
  • In the event of an injury or accident, contact the on-site Recreational Sports employee.

SPHB GYMNASIUM 163

  • Dunking, grabbing, hanging on rims or nets, or hand in the "cylinder" is not permitted due to safety and maintenance concerns. Violators will be subject to disciplinary process and asked to leave the facility immediately.
  • Participants are not to turn on the lights or tamper with the panel boxes located on the south wall. Requests or problems should be referred to Informal Sport Supervisors.
  • Kicking or throwing of a basketball and/or other equipment towards the ceiling is not permitted. Violators will be asked to leave the facility immediately and will be billed for the damages.
  • Verbal and/or physical abuse towards an employee of Campus Recreational Sports or a Recreational Sports participant result in immediate dismissal from the facility, with possible one-year suspension of all Recreational sports privileges and the possibility of expulsion from the university and legal charges filed.
  • Abuse of property will not be tolerated. Violators may be subject to disciplinary process and asked to leave the facility immediately.
  • Gym bags and book bags must be secured in a rental or day-use locker.
  • The north wall may be used as a tennis background for hitting tennis balls.
  • Informal Sports Participants are not permitted in the Equipment Storage Rooms.
  • If you would like the courts dust mopped, please see the Informal Sports Supervisor by the supervisor station located next to the Member Services Suite on Wildermuth Intramural Center Courts. Dust mops are also available for checkout with a valid Recreational Sports or IU I.D.
  • Basketball activity has priority over other activities (with the exception of regularly scheduled club sports practice times). If there are less than ten players, they must use half court and allow the other half court to be open for another activity.
  • Informal volleyball, football, lacrosse, baseball, cricket, or soccer activity is not allowed due to the low ceiling.
  • Only non-marking gym shows will be allowed on the courts.
  • No food or drink (other than water), or glass containers are allowed in activity spaces.
  • In the event of an injury or accident, contact the on-site Recreational Sports employee.

SPHB GYMNASIUM 169

  • Gym 169 is primarily an academic space. Club Sports also use this space to practice in the evenings during Recreational Sports time. Gym 169 is no longer open for Informal use.

SPHB GYMNASIUM 171

  • Only non-marking athletic shoes should be worn in SPHB 171.
  • No informal sports activities are permitted in Gym 171 without permission from the Informal Sports Supervisor.
  • Prior to participation in any Group Exercise session, participants should sign the "Participation Waiver" provided by the leader.
  • Dependents under 18 years of age are not permitted to participate in Group Exercise sessions.
  • Participants should report malfunctioning lights, temperature fluctuations or any other maintenance concerns to the on-site Recreational Sports employee.
  • Participants are not to turn on or off the lights.
  • Personal possessions should be stored in a locker. Recreational Sports is not responsible for lost or stolen items.
  • Abuse of property or verbal or physical abuse of participants or staff will not be tolerated. Violators may be subject to disciplinary process and asked to leave the facility immediately.
  • No food or drink (other than water), or glass containers are allowed past the activity spaces.
  • In the event of an injury or accident, contact the on-site Recreational Sports employee.

ROYER POOL

  • Participants must present a valid IU Bloomington student/faculty/staff ID, Recreational Sports membership, daily/weekly pass, or IU Conference Bureau ID to the lifeguard upon entering the pool area.
  • Children/dependents, under 18 years, must be accompanied and directly supervised by a parent or guardian (18 years or older) holding a valid IU identification card or membership, daily/weekly pass, or valid Conference Bureau Name Badge.
  • Participants may not enter the pool until a Recreational Sports Lifeguard is on duty and instructions of the lifeguard must be obeyed at all times.
  • Lifeguards will make final decisions concerning the safety of all participants in the pool area.
  • If the lifeguards blow their whistles, stop what you are doing and follow their instructions.
  • Running, rough play, intoxication, and profanity are prohibited.
  • All swimmers will enter the lap pool from the ends only. No diving is permitted in the competition pool.
  • Only Coast Guard approved life jackets will be allowed as swimming aids and are only allowed in the shallow area of the lap swimming pool. No other type of flotation device will be allowed.
  • Lane lines should be used only as safety lines in case of an emergency.
  • State law requires that all swimmers must take a shower before entering the pool.
  • Goggles, kickboards, pull buoys, fins and stroke paddles are allowed. Please return the Recreational Sports kickboards and pull buoys to the storage bin; do not throw these items.
  • Kickboards, pull buoys and Aqua Joggers are training aids and may not be used as floatation devices.
  • No street shoes are permitted on the deck.
  • No glass containers, food or drink (except water in plastic bottles) are permitted in the pool area.
  • Swimsuits are required. No cut-offs, gym shorts or other attire is allowed. Changing clothes on deck is prohibited.
  • Lap Swimming will follow a circular pattern, swimming on the right-hand side of the lane at all times except to pass. Please try to pass another swimmer at the wall.
  • Only towels, deck footwear, and items necessary for swimming are allowed on deck. All other personal belongings must be stored in a locker.
  • In the event of an injury, accident, or you are not feeling well, please notify a lifeguard immediately.

DIVING POOL

  • The Diving Well can be used for lap swimming. Diving has priority but swimming may take place going in the north-south direction provided it is not a safety hazard.
  • Participants in the Diving Well must be able to swim the width of the pool.
  • The inside 1-meter and 3-meter diving boards may be used. The 5-meter platform and outside diving boards will be closed during Informal Sports hours.
  • Only one bounce per dive is allowed on the springboards. There are no practice bounces allowed. No gymnastic activity (i.e. cartwheel or head and hand stands). Diving board and platform participants must leave the board/platform facing the water. Backward and inward dives are not permitted.

SPHB POOL 194

  • Participants must present a valid IU Bloomington student/faculty/staff ID, Recreational Sports membership, day/weekly pass, or IU Conference Bureau ID to the lifeguard upon entering the pool area.
  • Children/dependents, under 18 years, must be accompanied and directly supervised by a parent or guardian (18 years or older) holding a valid IU identification card or membership, daily/weekly pass, or valid Conference Bureau Name Badge.
  • Participants may not enter the pool until a Recreational Sports Lifeguard is on duty and instructions of the lifeguard must be obeyed at all times.

  • Do not hang from the mats attached to the walls.

Dance Studio (SPHB Racquetball Ct. 6) – By Reservation only

Occupancy Capacity = 16

  • Reservations may be made up to 24 hours in advance at the Wildermuth Member Services Suite or by calling 855-5222.
  • Participant's whose names appear in the Daily Reservation Book located in the Member Services Suite in the Wildermuth Intramural Center will be allowed access to the Dance Studio.
  • Participants will be allowed to use wall balance bars.
  • Only non-marking gym shoes will be allowed.
  • Individuals must have a valid IUB Student I.D. with a valid Recreational Sports (RS) membership or IUB Faculty/Staff I.D. with a valid RS membership purchased to use RS activity spaces. Please be prepared to show your valid IU I.D. or RS membership card.

SPHB Woodlawn Field/Track

(SPHB Woodlawn Track - 6.14 laps = 1 mile)

  • In case of emergency or injury, please report your injury to the Recreational Sports employee at the Wildermuth Intramural Center Member Services Suite (812-855-3225) or Club Sport Safety officer. You may reach IUPD at 911.
  • Campus Recreational Sports will make decisions pertaining to field and weather conditions and reserves the right to close the facility and/or cancel activities.
  • Physical changes to the site are not allowed (i.e. moving bleachers or goals, installing items into the ground, etc.).
  • Pets, alcoholic beverages, tobacco products, glass containers, bicycles, motorized vehicles, and any other items that are deemed unsafe, are prohibited.
  • This site is reserved for sport-related activities. Reservations can be requested at the Wildermuth Intramural Center or SRSC Member Services Suite.
  • Campus Recreational Sports can postpone or cancel activities at any time if the event is deemed unsafe; or if event coordinators, participants, or spectators are uncooperative or in violation of the aforementioned policies.
  • Woodlawn field and track will be closed from beginning of Thanksgiving break to start of spring break each year for field maintenance.
  • Neither Indiana University nor Campus Recreational Sports or the School of Public Health assumes responsibility for ill health or injury sustained while participating in facilities. Participation is voluntary. All individuals are encouraged to obtain a physical examination and suitable insurance coverage before participation.
  • Violation of these regulations may result in disciplinary action.
